I have a recessed mandible but my I'm still early to puberty and trying to fix it. I am going to go over my opinion on the Herbst appliance and compare it to the Forsus appliance. I would like responses to see what where I may be wrong or right in. I also would like recomendations on appliances that can promote forward growth of the mandible but for cheap and also not while recessing my maxilla at the same time. For now the Forsus appliance seems like the best for this scenario but its extremely expensive. 5,000 - 7,000 USD. Please help and thank you.

Forsus appliance requires both bottom and upper braces on all teeth which anchor to the maxilla and madible firmly allowing for retraction of the upper incisors promoting and promoting a cleaner look vs Herbst appliance which anchors to the upper molors (a single pair of teeth in the back) and the lower pre molars, this causes a weaker anchor of the jaws and can cause teeth issues in terms of moving them, hence why the Herbst appliance is significantly cheaper compared to the forus appliance.

Not to mention that someone on this forum (pretty sure its BecomingHuman) got fucked by the Herbst appliance as it didn't promote forward growth of his mandbile and teeth aren't straight.

Again I am uneducated in this realm but I'm giving my opinion please give your experiences in this thread thanks.

try getting your insurance to cover the treatment through a sleep study

everybody reacts differently to orthodontics

Forsus will move teeth in the alveolar bone, but not guide the mandible forward
