that's quite a lot of cultural relevance when you think about it. prior to the 1980s, japan pretty much exported zero culture. china's influence has also grown since the 1970s. i don't disagree with your points, there will never be a cultural takeover of the rest, for the reasons you describe and a whole host more. but where might asian cultural influence be in another thirty years time?

nevertheless, china's politico-economic influence is growing. sure, this doesn't impact the average westerner, but it's heavily discussed in geopolitical/security circles and is viewed with extreme trepidation by the U.S. and european governments. china is not conforming to the status quo and rules established under western hegemony. by subverting them where it can, and slowly pushing the boundaries of what is and isn't acceptable for it to do, china is undermining the traditional power of the west and the institutions through which the west enacts its world order, e.g., the United Nations and the World Trade Organisation.

In the end of the day you can do the whole recipe, without the main ingredient it will never be the same. Work ethics, freedom, religion, education, ambition, creativity... In the end it will come down to individuals. How willpowered are the citizens and how much they rely on the state? What are their morals? Their incentives to change and create?
