This could just be PUA cope but I think there's some legitimacy to the frame of mind you're coming from when you cold approach someone. If you find them attractive and genuinely just want to chat and have a good time and make their day better, I think it could be fun and lead to connecting with them. However, if it's obvious that you want something from them and are just constantly asking boring questions "How are you" "Where are you from" "What are you into" etc. You're taking from them and it's a turn off.
