When you raise the posterior tongue or engage the tongue on the palate you're activating the palate muscles. These muscles are responsible for the opening and closing of the auditory tube to help balance pressure in the ear. Chronic activation of these muscles can damage the auditory tube and lead to conditions such as Eustachian tube dysfunction and tinnitus
