Debate- Do Braces lock/stunt jaw growth GTFIH

I just got braces with no extractions- the plan is to straighten my teeth then most likely fix my bite with elastics (16M)

My friend thinks i sealed my fate and that any maxilla growth i would’ve gotten during the “prime” of my gh levels is done now and that it could’ve kept growing till 18-18

Q1- Do Braces really stop maxilla growth/forward growth- he thinks it dos because it’s like a “metal cage” that stops things from growing forward, i think that it wouldn’t because the braces hold the alveolar bone in place and adjusts that, rather than holding my entire jaw in place

Q2- if only a slight correction with elastics would i get noticeable maxill recession/ recession at all

Q3- Is it possible for the maxilla to grow at 16+/ is it likely

how tho. i have braces aswell and experienced virtually zero recession. i've done some searching and the braces only hold the teeth plus the bone directly around the teeth; not the actual jaw bone. even the elastics are usually like 5 oz or even more in some cases which cant be enough to impact actual bone development, right?
