Dental retainer affect jaw development?

i'm 16 i've had braces for about 2 years now so my teeth don't move i have to wear plastic rentainer every night on my top teeth and i have a fixed one on the bottom the dentist said to wear it for at least 5 years and advised to wear it for the rest will this affect the development of my jaw?

No, I don't see why it would. Although your teeth are connected to the mandbile and maxilla via the gums, it's just so that they don't get crooked. If your mandible and maxilla continue growing forward, the retainer will have no impact.
