Dermaroller/Dermapen Warning

Be very careful with dermarollers and dermapens. This goes for hair loss, acne scarring, collagen production, whatever you use them for, at any needle length.

The ones on Amazon are all cheap Chinese junk and will likely disfigure you.

Go look on Realself and see the negative reviews with before/after photos from people who got professional dermapen treatment. Even done professionally it can cause horrible, permanent lines and enlarged pores. Some of them looked like they aged 10+ years in one treatment.

The most common China dermarollers are the 540 Titanium Needle variant and the needles aren't shaped like needles at all, more like little knives. They will tear your pores which causes permanent enlargement. Also because of their shape they don't penetrate as deep as they should. If you're dermarolling with 1.5mm on your scalp and not bleeding then that's a big red flag that you're using knives instead of needles. I don't know what these 540 needle rollers do to hair follicles/scalp but they will fuck your face up for sure.

The dermapens will always cause micro tearing no matter how slowly you move it, because there are always needles in your skin at any time. If you use it more like a stamp and press it down on each area instead of drag it you'll end up "mashing" where too many needles have punctured close together. This is apparently even worse than tearing. Goodbye to your youthful skin texture.

Tldr don't fuck around with cheap Chinese garbage on your skin or head. Not only are the official studies of 1.5mm needling for scalp wounding not using these but it could make the problem even worse by causing unnecessary inflammation or tearing follicles.

If so you're basically fucked and there is little I know of that you can do about it. I'm using the cheapest dermapen I could buy online and it's all good bro, it just blocks sometimes and you have to get the needle out and put it back again
I haven't ever used a dermaroller though
plus with dermapen I don't think the "pen" is the issue but the quality of the needles... and these are standard for every dermapen I suppose so i don't know what's the problem

Yep. That's a 540 needle Titanium roller commonly sold on Amazon. Look closely at the needles they aren't needles they are like sharp triangles that will slice open your pore walls.

I've been had as well. I have two of those exact models. One 0.5mm for facial hair + minox and another 1.5mm for scalp. I bought a dermapen (highly reviewed of course) off Amazon and used it a few times on acne scars. Even moving it slowly I noticed it looked like a tiny cat clawed my skin so I went back thru my order history to look at reviews again.. Poof the product page and all the glowing reviews are gone. All of it is now in the garbage. Thankfully the scrapes have practically disappeared but man it pissed me off and has me worried the damage might surface later as I age, or under different lighting.

Throw it all out.

You wanna freak yourself out? Get a piece of paper, tape each side so it is suspended taughtly in the air. Run the pen along it slowly at the fastest setting. Hold it up to a light and look at the tears.. they won't be needle holes.

That's if the piece of shit can even get through the paper.

Yeah it matters because you have hair covering it so you probably don't even see the damage. If you really want to use this on your face after that then go for it. It's not so bad if it's in areas covered by hair but I'm certainly not going to put that pen back on my face for my facial hair again. At some point I may not want to rock a beard and I really don't want the skin of a 60 year old to be revealed under there. The thing is junk, it can't go through paper and gets jammed. I don't know what this proves. What am I missing? They use that photo of the skin damage on their website within their review article of different rollers which I linked in OP. So yeah they have it uploaded to their website too. Could have been emailed to them, they asked for permission, then uploaded it. Can you explain or was this a misunderstanding?

So you could use it now for up to 2mo and risk some sort of additional scarring on top of stretch marks and/or a lack of efficiacy, or find another seller of good ones so you don't have to wait forever. I get good results from cheap 1.5 mm dermarollers. You do need to replace after a few uses though.
