DIY Facepuller (Helmet Method) 🪖

What You’ll Need:

  1. A strong bike or climbing helmet
    • Should cover your forehead firmly.
    • Must not slide around.
  2. Strong resistance bands or latex tubing
    • 5–15 kg of resistance to start.
    • Use two bands for balance.
  3. Soft mouthguard or dental arch (custom or store-bought)
    • You’ll bite on this while pulling.
    • Needs to protect your teeth/jaw.
  4. Carabiners, hooks, or clips
    • For connecting bands to the helmet and mouthpiece.
  5. Adjustable straps or elastic cords
    • Can be sewn or knotted through helmet vents.
How to Build It:

Step 1: Helmet Setup
  • Take a bike helmet and attach resistance bands to the back or sides using holes or straps.
  • Secure them so they can pull forward and slightly downward (same direction as ideal facial growth).
Step 2: Mouthpiece
  • Use a mouthguard you bite down on (like a sports one or custom tray from the dentist).
  • Attach small loops or hooks to it for the resistance bands to clip onto.

Alternative: Some guys attach the bands around their back molars or use a fake retainer — just make sure not to stress your teeth sideways.

Step 3: Connect and Adjust
  • Connect the resistance bands from the helmet (back/top of head) to the mouthguard (front).
  • When you wear the helmet and bite the mouthguard, it should pull your midface forward, not down or up
How to Use It:
  • Duration: Start with 15–30 min per day
  • Force: Light tension — you should feel it, but it should NOT cause pain
  • Position: Sit or lay back, head straight, mouth closed tightly around the guard

Important Tips:
  • Never over-tighten or sleep with it.
  • Don’t apply pressure to your lower jaw (mandible) — only the maxilla.

Has anybody with sleep apnea done this to see if it helped? Expanding the top jaw helps widen the airway, and it’s already a treatment used, but I haven’t seen anybody try to football helmet method.
