Do Castor Oil and/or MSM grow scalp hair quicker?

Have heard they do however all I have seen is anecdotal evidence

I tried megadosing MSM and oral castor oil and it did not help my hair

In fact oral castor oil seems to have caused a shed and my hair looks thinner now
