Do elastics actually recess you

I have elastics that go from my lower canine teeth to my top molar, is it true that these elastics push your jaw back?

Yes it can move your jaw permanently

maybe, i had a little overbite when i started using elastics and later on it got better but idk if it was because of it

if it does that to you just take of your retainer and if your smile remains aesthetic it should shift back
