Do I need a palate expander?

For a long time I have had issues with breathing through my nose and have heard that a palate expander can actually help with that, I feel like my tongue also doesn’t have enough space to properly mew

you have an absurdly narrow palate you should switch your dentist because your current one is shit and should have their medical license revoked for not pushing you to get an expander sooner

yeah im certain you are going to have problems for the rest of your life if you dont fix it. compare your palate to other people if you dont believe me but any decent doctor will tell you the same

It’s most likely because the orthodontist I did use was pushing for braces and retraction, that’s why I decided to switch to aqua dental, they specialise in facemask, palate expander etc. you could call them an airway based orthodontist

i dont really have experience with RME but do with MSE and know that MSE works very good. the lack of anchoring to the upper bone might be a problem but consult with your doc thats all.

Okay tysm for helping me bro, but I have a question. Isn’t mse the skeletal anchored version of the palate expander, and I thought it could only be used if your sutures are closed. I’m only 14 so I don’t think the sutures are closed in my palate.

I honestly don’t know why my past orthodontist didn’t recommend it, they also removed one of my canines and it didn’t even grow back properly. But with expansion will I see skeletal change in the nasal walls because I have had really big issues with breathing. Also had surgery previously where they burned some part of my nose that was enlarged.

an orthodontist, some braces, expander, maybe some therapy to help you get better posture and habits, thats def not all. my situation was a bit worse than your and it took me 9 years to fix it, not to mention that it was atleast 10K€

I will of course use braces after the expansion since I will get diastema, and luckily for me the palate expander and braces will be free since I’m a minor in Sweden and I actually have medical issues that require me to have expansion. But could you elaborate with therapy, what do you mean by that

i had to relearn how to breathe trough my mouth, how to hold my tongue in the right place, how to properly bite and so on, since my situation was really bad
