i can’t feel empathy for other people, i can’t feel what theyre feeling

i’ll act empathetic and even apologize rven if something isn’t connected to me but i actually don’t care at all

for example, your friend says his mom died and he’s crying to you, can you actually feel bad for him? like you feel his pain, or do u just give comfort without feeling anything

i feel like no one actually cares about what they’re being told, they’re just waiting for their turn to speak

I do but I feel like most or just a huge sum of people don't. Like the people who see Palestinian children getting bulldozed on the news and think it's justified (extreme example but you get what I mean) . These people feel "empathy" if it effects them personally but don't care otherwise. I get upset whenever I hear about people dying even if it's someone I have zero relation to.

Not saying you're a bad person tho OP. It's biological. Just don't take advantage of the lack of empathy to fuck people over like gigaceos and lawyers LMAO. If anything it could probably be a superpower if channeled correctly.

I used to feel very deep empathy when I was younger, but I’ve lost it
It does come back in rare situations, but most of my reactions today (where I’m perceived to be empathetic by the recipient), has been shaped from my responses in the past.. they’re more habitual. In reality I don’t feel much of anything
