I've been thinking of getting braces but have heard that rubberbands can cause maxillary recession. My mandible is recessed and I have a slight overjet and slight overbite. I don't know how to explain my maxilla right now as it seems like only the upper part of it is recessed and I also have a narrow palate. What are some things I should know before getting braces or even my teeth looked at when talking to an orthodontist?

I'm 17

yeah they do, go to a jaw surgeon and get them to create a plan for your teeth and jaw and you can get your teeth moved into place before jaw surgery. an orthodonist will only focus on the teeth and fuck up your jaw

So I should talk to a jaw surgeon, and then explain what he said to the orthodontist after?

You should talk to a jaw surgeon and then he'll probably recommend an orthodontist. You'll need to wear braces for one year atleast prior to jaw surgery.

So when you know you'll be able to get jaw surgery in a year, go to a jaw surgeon, they'll create a plan which will include the position your teeth need to be in prior to surgery and how much they'll move during surgery.

Then they'll send you to a specialist orthodontist who'll handle your braces.

So first step is consult with a good maxillofacial surgeon and they'll take things from there. depending on severity and country you might get everything covered by insurance.

So first step, maxillofacial surgeon, second, jaw surgeon and then that surgeon will send me to an orthodontist?

The maxilla facial surgeon is the medical name for a jaw surgeon and yes he will then send you to a specialist orthodontist who works with MF surgeons
