yes and no, in total dimensions the taller you are the wider your shoulders likely are, but proportionally the rest of your body will make it look smaller.

tapering is dimensions and ratios rather than raw measurements.

They don't actually. It's just that they're elongated so it appears worse. The width is the same

There is diminishing returns. Taller people also has super wide hips from what ive seen
