VPN's are cope anyways. Intelligence agencies can subpoena user info from VPN enterprises if given a warrant. The idea that anyone can be anonymous online is silly, the internet is the very essence of surveillance.

It doesn't matter the company; law enforcement can issue warrants regardless of an enterprise's supposed dedication to anonymity. They'd face charges themselves for not complying.

Not really. My activity here is not illegal so I'm not scared of being "arrested" for anything :LULdog:

This is what they all say, even Proton continuously claims they don't even after being proven to harvest copious amounts of metadata. Even when these services provide their supposed "source-code", there's no way to verify server-side behavior. And even if their "source code" is public, there's no way to verify the app you downloaded is compiled from that exact code (unless it's reproductible, which it usually is not).

And keep in mind, audits are periodic snapshots, so even though auditors claim they've examined their servers and configs, that can easily be cheated. We could go on and on about this, it's possible traffic could be analyzed after leaving the app, how routing and metadata handling aren't visible, and the fact that probably 100% of them have been proven to inspect traffic without logging. (Lots of them block services like BitTorrent, which literally proves that they analyze your traffic).

Never take anybody or anything's word. Especially on the internet.

true but mullvad has been subpoena'd multiple times and nothing came out of it

so I do trust them more

but i share your general scepticism around digital privacy

They won't target you or try to do anything to you unless you're an inspirational / leading figure in a community of harmful people

If you're just some dude that says edgy shit here and there you'll be fine
