Better alternative that keeping them locked up, prisons are just overall a bad punishment. Too expensive, and deterrence is minimal.
Small crimes should be community service/fines, medium crimes should be public whipping, high crimes should be death penalty.

Longer trials, mandatory appeals, decades on death row, special legal procedures.

Morally: the state shouldn’t have the power to kill when errors are inevitable

Legally: it’s applied unfairly and irreversibly

Practically: it wastes huge amounts of public money for no added benefit

you're right, but ideally people should not stay decades on death row. i see no benifit in it

murder is natural but cooperation instinct is as natural. murder is only benificial for good reason and outside of your cooperative circle. modern legal system decides the status of your freedom based on Judeo Christian biblical values.
