I've been recommended to go to Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) and want to see if any other users have similar experiences.

yeah sleeplessness is a cunt, just sitting there trying to sleep thinking "i'd shoot myself in the head to be able to sleep" haha
Insomnia is a bitch man, but my doctors wanna focus on my “anxiety” and “depression” instead, when they’re probably caused by the insomnia itself.I got prescribed meds for schizophrenia depression anger issues and insomnia although I only have the last one

Maybe social anxiety. But otherwise no

Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy ill look into this thanks anon, yeah thats the probably with cbt its almost like trying to trick ur brain nothings wrong which ultimately doesnt fix ur original problemsI have aspergers and OCS (obese child syndrome)
Was bullied and shunned/excluded because of it, so I was left with anxiety, depression and 0 self-esteem or identity. You can rebuild tho, renaissance arc
The best thing I ever did for my mental health was finding a psychologist using Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy, CBT and other shit is fucking useless if you have an IQ over 80.
I live in the countryside now but used to be ok on most dayshow would you say it makes you feel in ur average day?
aw thats cool, i bet the swedish countryside is beautifulI live in the countryside now but used to be ok on most days
I'm reading that DBT was created for treatment of BPDI have been learning a lot about mental health in my major and will further specialize in the future.
(DBT) is a good and something I recommend to a lot of people to try. what i have learned is that a lot of people don't actual suffer from chemical imbalances 'so to speak' but are more haunted by their memories. A chemical imbalance can be created simply by just not eating enough or having a bad memory.
DBT will help those who have extreme reactions to life in general by changing their mentality. Just changing my perspective and having stoic thought processes helped me out in general.

In what why do you have trouble connecting with people?I don't think I have mental health issues in the classical sense, but I have trouble connecting with other humans, and I'm not sure why. I tried therapy, but it was shit. I'm searching for legal medication to change how I feel in social settings, but haven't found something yet. Tbh, not being able to have emotional connections does make me feel mentally bad, so I might have mental health problems.
you're preaching to the choir man. yeah it's a treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder. it's a personality disorder that is considered the feminine variant of anti-social disorder. traumatic experiences are a considered to be a cause for it.I'm reading that DBT was created for treatment of BPD
DBT is based on the idea that 2 important factors contribute towards BPD:
- you are particularly emotionally vulnerable – for example, low levels of stress make you feel extremely anxious
- you grew up in an environment where your emotions were dismissed by those around you – for example, a parent may have told you that you had no right to feel sad or you were just "being silly" if you complained of feelings of anxiety or stress
The two bulletpoints resonate with me a lot which i find interesting as I had a girl tell me I have BPD.
I can have normal conversations and read all social cues, but I never get to have close friends and I'm always like a third wheel, don't know why.In what why do you have trouble connecting with people?
I can maybe help as I have been self isolating for a long time but now have started to be social and make friends.
Does it manifest differently in men and women?you're preaching to the choir man. yeah it's a treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder. it's a personality disorder that is considered the feminine variant of anti-social disorder. traumatic experiences are a considered to be a cause for it.
there is a lot of ways that it manifests and its mostly in interpersonal relationships. developing oneitises is a symptom as well.
I pretty much felt like i had it for awhile, when in reality i was just being lied to a lot. the only piece of advice i can give you is to be patient/gentle with yourself and others. a person with borderline experiences very normal things at a heightened level which results in very heightened reactions. "its like being a child trapped in an adults body" however a child's tantrum and an adults tantrum is a frightening difference.
If you read into it further and watch lectures about it a lot of borderline people grow out of it with maturity.
find people with common interests and then spend a lot of time with them?I can have normal conversations and read all social cues, but I never get to have close friends and I'm always like a third wheel, don't know why.
yeah when I say that I mean it's more common disorder for women to have, while for men it's antisocial disorder. antisocial disorder is more criminal.Does it manifest differently in men and women?
Elaborate on this, I've never heard of it.Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy
I suffer from being too chill/relaxed/easy-going all the time
yeah when I say that I mean it's more common disorder for women to have, while for men it's antisocial disorder. antisocial disorder is more criminal.
just from rereading it, it stems from a fear of abandonment. in this fear, people will do anything they can to avoid the rejection to the point where they end up guaranteeing it. they have an intense desire and fear of intimacy at the same time which results in the people afflicted doing irrational shit in the moment.
DBT) is based in stoic practices. but more with an active guide (therapist) to keep you track.
It looks good but nothing to do@thenewhebbe
is the countryside not beautiful?
It's the most effective and research based treatment currently, and I can personally say, 100x more useful than retarded shit like CBT.Elaborate on this, I've never heard of it.
did u pay for therapy? It's the most effective and research based treatment currently, and I can personally say, 100x more useful than retarded shit like CBT.
From Wikipedia: "The therapy's primary goal is to help the patient overcome internal resistance to experiencing true feelings about the present and past which have been warded off because they are either too frightening or too painful. The technique is intensive in that it aims to help the patient experience these warded-off feelings to the maximum degree possible; it is short-term in that it tries to achieve this experience as quickly as possible; it is dynamic because it involves working with unconscious forces and transference feelings."
This shit has literally changed my life for the better so much more than any self help or other "therapy" has.
No, but after what I've experienced with it I would have.did u pay for therapy?
