I feel like my dad got lucky with my mom because most other women would've left him a long time ago but yeah sometimes I feel that too. I don't think they "do it" either (he slept on the couch for several years before we moved houses) and I've caught him with porn links in his browser several times when I had to fix his devices jfl. And he's condesending towards her and me and everyone in his life, he always thinks he's the smartest person in every room.

Either she likes the drama, or feels obligated to be with him since she's been with him for so long, or would feel guilty about abandoning him and how it would emotionally affect us kids.

I do think relationships can work, if the man and woman are best friends that happen to be the opposite gender. I've seen happy couples before in my family/friends. Maybe 20% of couples actually "work" and the rest of them just settled. You gotta be with someone on the same wavelength as you.
