His early work was a little too hyperpop for my tastes, but when Tales from the Basement came in ‘22, I think he really came into his own, commercially, and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Ramirez, but I think James has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '22, James released this, Blackpill Curse, his best song, a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about being an incel, and the importance of looks, it's also a personal statement about the artist himself.
