I’m deciding to go against the MSE my palate is narrow but don’t care. I’m trying to a Bsso primarily, just my orthojew wants MSE so my teeth don’t flare after this. But don’t give a shit it’s not worth it, I prefer having flared Donkey teeth then looking like some orge.
Probably the reason is that MSE is only make one dimension way bigger, the maxila is In 3 dimensions so you have to address it equally. Kids when they get expanders never look worse after expanders because they are still growing so the expansion gets eaten up by natural growth the child still had. For adults 18 and up we have no more potential for growth so it looks worse, because we didn’t address the other 2 dimensions. The only thing that feel can help out is a face mask while doing expansion but there are not many cases of people doing it after, not a very big sample size. Dr.Ting said with adults and facemask you’re lucky to get 2 mm that was years ago things might have changed. MSE must have a facemask to prevent the ogre look but that just a theory. And expand max 4 mms to avoid it worse. Ideally 4 mms expansion and 4 forward with pulling the same as your occlusal plane

That’s the thing no one has done it before, I will ask my surgeon if he thinks it’s possible if not then yeah mse is worthless
What’s an alar clinch? Would you get this during MSE treatment or after?
Ok so if my ortho is trying to split me without a surgical split, would I still ask him if he can do an alar clinch to the nose or would he look at me like i’m crazy? Should I instead just ask him is there any way for my nose to not aesthetically get bigger during MSE ( slow expansion etc )
Typically done in surgical lefort 1 cases, if your maxilla is going to be surgically split to install the MSE device then ask your orthodontist or maxillofacial surgeon for an alar cinch to prevent/minimize nose widening during expansion. Might as well ask even if not getting surgery
A ortho would never do an alar cinch only jaw surgeons from what I have seen.
