I had braces and I'm ugly, however, that could just be bad genes.

If I was to take a guess, I'd estimate that they might make you look slightly worse depending on how / what was done, but it wouldn't be like "oh if I had never had braces I could've been a model".

Braces are often used to pull the upper jaw down in some way to match the bite/align the teeth better so they can definitely make you uglier (especially if you get extractions don’t get them). Not saying you’ll be ugly if u get braces but chances are they won’t help your upper/lower jaw (at least your teeth will be straight though)
