On lookism.net (God rest its soul) I recall a thread (actually multiple) where chewing was said to make the lower third smaller, in the same way an egg gets squashed against a harder surface. Anyone know of this?

Never saw it but idk how that makes any sense, hardcore chewing should cause masseter development
If with the egg image its being implied that the lower third swinging up and making contact with the palate repeatedly will cause it to "compress", if this were true the compression should occur from the top down, you'd grind your teeth into nothing before you shrunk your chin

It makes no sense. There is also a correlation between jaw width and masseter thickness. In case masseter hypertrophy would make it wider

Yes thats the idea, it compresses against the maxilla and the mandible loses height.

That sounds completely absurd tbqh fam, how would this even physically work? I would have to go full unrestrained autism mode and calculate all the force vectors to be sure but the little newton inside is telling me that if this were true your mandible would compress unevenly and it would look goofy as fuck if it actually happened
now I'm sitting here groping my mandible and wondering, JFL

Fuck! If Zesto didnt delete all the threads smh
It had photos of what chewing is supposed to do to you

I believe what they could have meant is that chewing can grind down your teeth and thus cause a "deeper" or more closed bite. This wouldn't happen from gum chewing though as gum is too soft to grind down teeth.
