So why do genio do this, but not implant? Is it basically stretching muscles which are attached to both the chin and hyoid?

BSSO does for sure. Not too sure about genio since I'm not sure if the internal structures are moved but I know for sure it does at least cause the appearance of a higher hyoid bone.

Reasoning
Did you not read the article you posted? The genio moves the structures (like the tongue) that are attached to the inside of the chin forward. That's why a genio can help to some extent with sleep apnea even without a jaw advancement, it pulls the tongue forward. A chin implant doesn't and wouldn't move any of those internal structures

No prob. In fact there's even a sleep apnea surgery called a genioglossus advancement where they cut out a little window in the chin bone and move it forward to advance the tongue like a genio would, but without the aesthetic change.

Well this kinda complicates things. Was gonna just get a chin implant and call it a day, but now kinda want a genio fuuuark

chin implant does nothing to your hyoid or submental muscles. even genio barely does depending on movements.

only if you are a gigachincel you'd see improvements in that regard because then you'd need big movements, but a subtle genio of like 5mm won't do shit to really tighten that area up.
