Does imperfect/slightly patchy stubble work as designer stubble? Or do you need full coverage for it to look good?

So I've come to the conclusion that short stubble definitely mogs. The question is do you need full/dense facial hair for it to look good? Or will patchy facial hair also look good given that I wouldn't be growing it out beyond like 3mm? I feel like alot of models don't have perfect facial hair anyway and the natural/sparse growth pattern stubbles can look good. Thoughts on whether I should keep using minoxidil until I can grow full stubble?
