Does metformin helps to lose weight?

Does anyone have experience taking metformin to get rid of fat faster? I'm currently using it and so far it has given me a raging diarrhea. I wonder if it's worth it going through this. Since pandemic I've gained about 20 pounds that I just cant get rid of.
