Fidel Castro went into Cuba gambling the support of villagers in the civil war. He knew the would turn over and they did. Che wouldn't have achieved anything without Fidel's masterful understanding on what it takes for a revolution to happen and how societies work. State repressive force is not enough to stop a revolution and never has. This is in literature read by both sides since 1920s and a very intuitive conclusion if you understand how societies work.
