Doing arm exercises with Dumbells actually weakened my arms and shoulders in comparison to pushups.

Long story short, I used to be able to do 100 pushups a day, but I wanted to build my forearm muscles because I felt like all pushups were doing aesthetically were just building my shoulders to a degree. I did feel like my push strength was great, and it still is above average I think, but I started to transition to bicep curls, and overhead exercises, and I would do them until I got sore, and always tried to do more and more each day using 20lb dumbbells.

Eventually I transitioned out of doing pushups and focused entirely on my arms for awhile, what a mistake. I started to do pushups again yesterday. I barely made it to 70 without my entire left arm giving out, I had energy to do 30 more but my body wouldn't let me, proof that it had gotten weaker.

Everytime I try weightlifting it lets me down, I really don't think there's anything better than calisthenics and cardio, everytime I focus up on cardio, and calisthenics I get more lean, I get stronger, and I have more energy. Weightlifting has always fucked me over no bizarre as fuck.

Today I was only able to do 70 aswell. I'll try and reach 75 or 80 tomorrow, hopefully it doesn't take long to regain my strength.

Explain to me why I can only do 70 pushups without my arms giving out when I fully transitioned to weight lifting for my arms and shoulders, but I was able to do 100 consistently prior to giving up pushups.

20s are a shit weight to lift niggur

Stop the presses! Not training pushup stamina leads to a decrease in pushup stamina?!?

Push-ups is going to make you stronger at push-ups, not surprise you lost a bit of strength but 30% is still surprising

Just do both.

pushups also use your chest and abs. So even if your arms have gotten stronger, it could be that your abs and chest got weaker from not training for a while. Your arms tire out faster because they are doing more of the heavy lifting to make for for the slack in those other areas

Because there's a degree of specificity to everything. When you're doing pushup you're not just getting generically stronger arms (even though that is happening) you're also training pushup specific strength. It's teaching your neurons to fire in a more efficient manner specifically for pushups. It's teaching you pushup technique which is going to degrade over time if you don't use it. And if you were working in the 100 rep range then you weren't training stamina to the same degree as you were when you were doing pushups. 100 pushups isn't even training strength anyway, as evidenced by the fact that you were only using 20lb dumbbells.

Are you doing the push-ups in the same week you worked out arms? Have you gained weight?

If you genuinely think weight training made you weaker I don’t know what to tell you
