anywhere from 8-16 sets a week for one muscle works. The amt of sets you do per week for each muscle can differ a lot. For example, Lateral raises anymore than 10 sets a week is too much, while 12-14 sets of chest per week will still give you great growthHow much is 'adequate volume' however?

Your body isn't static. It becomes adjusted to the stress you apply after a while. I know this because I do full-body workouts 6 times a week and run 5km every day.
