All of this competition advanced European technology, military strategy and political organization. When the Ottoman Empire destroyed the Roman Empire it blocked off or heavily taxed trade routes from Europe to Asia, forcing Europeans to find cheaper alternatives. They stumbled upon the New World, which was full of resources. So they colonized it, starting with the Spanish and the Portuguese. They got filthy rich and powerful, so their neighbors had to follow to stay in the race for colonization

China and other ethnic never had to face this kind of competition, owing to their relative isolation. It is surrounded by huge deserts, mountain ranges and rain forests that function as natural borders etc.

The Ottoman Empire was considered an European state and was one of the participants during the Berlin Congress for the scramble for Africa (99% of people don't know this). It is more complicated than that. It more had to do with the deep navigable rivers in Europe that were more abundant than other place in the world. Transportation by water Is roughly 1 tenth of land transport. This effect compounded over thousands of years and you will get a very advanced civilization that is able to specialize more, there for more advanced. but i think also is not just environmental factors that led this development. The American Indians sat on a land even more intense with waterway and natural resources but never settled with more time than the europeans did. The truth is it is probably a mix of both but more environment than god given genetics
