Even though we are in the middle of a heatwave, I don’t use sunscreen whenever I go outside

If you are really from pakistan, then what is even the point of even applying sunscreen? Isn't it perpetually hot in pakistan?

Do pakis even apply sunscreen? Genuinely curious.
I am in The Netherlands, I was born and raised here.

Sunscreen? Never heard of it :ogre:

Ah fair. Still what is even the point?

Brown skinned people don't really need sunscreens. I've never applied sunscreen in my life, despite spending my entire life in one of the warmest cities in canada.

Everyone is supposed to wear sunscreen, regardless of race (so my friend claims).
Is it? I heard everyone’s supposed to wear it. I thought I was gonna brag about my stupidity.
Sub-saharan africans have a built in spf of about 15, so I would assume that you have around a 10 maybe? Either way, that still not enough to make it "safe" to go outside in a high UV index. The issue is just that most sunscreens contain oxybenzone and a couple of other ingredients that may be endocrine disruptive and/or cancerous (I don't remember which one:hnghn:), so wearing sunscreen becomes somewhat of a tradeoff. The pros deff outweigh the cons usually, but I don't see any reason to apply sunscreen when doing simple tasks like going to the store. Only with prolonged exposure is it really neccecery.

There are other alternatives like mineral based sunscreens that aren't harmful and don't absorb into your bloodstream (or at least not to a large extent), but instead physically reflect the UV rays. These are technically safer, but are supposedly thicker and more annoying to deal with. I don't actually know to what extent that is true though, as I haven't tested any myself.

All sunscreen also fucking suck to wear and apply so there is that:forcedsmile:

My friend says sunscreen is supposed to be worn by everyone, regardless of skin color. And yeah, I’ve never applied sunscreen in my life before either.

It was 38 degrees Celsius yesterday, but as you can see, there is also much more humidity in The Netherlands. Doesn’t that make it worse for us over here?
I googled it, and yeah, it’s worse to have high humidity. Look:

High Humidity (Above 60%)
  • Health: Limits the body's natural cooling process (evaporating sweat), increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
  • Environment: Creates a damp breeding ground for dust mites, bacteria, and toxic mold.
  • Home: Causes condensation on windows, peeling paint, and musty odors.

Low Humidity (Below 30%)
  • Health: Dries out mucous membranes and skin, leading to cracked lips, nosebleeds, and an increased susceptibility to viral infections.
  • Environment: Can cause dry, itchy eyes and exacerbate allergy or asthma symptoms.
  • Home: Leads to static electricity, shrinking or cracking of hardwood floors, and loosened furniture joints.

true but at least you dont need to worry about becoming red when you go outside because your not white:hnghn:, even with sun screen im still giga terrified of getting a sunburn and then looking like a recreation of a cancer patient who just got shoved into a jew oven

Ahhh, I see. I would rather appear red than deal with high humidity.

But at the same time, I thought it was definitely bearable. Maybe I’m built differently. :Bruh:
