song:
1. What is Extended Release Minoxidil?
it is just a modified version of oral minoxidil, where its going to release slowly in your body over the course of several hours, compared to the regular minoxidil that reaches peak blood levels within about an hour, which can come with a bigger drop in blood pressure and a faster rise in heart rate.
with the extended release it is obviously going to release slowly over time, which ultimately leads to lower peak concentrations. (comparison between peak concentration of traditional oral minoxidil and extended release)
as you can see it keeps the drug at stable levels in your body and reduces the chance of side effects (another image):
and what makes extended release minoxidil so interesting, is because it could potentially reduce dizziness, cause less of a heart rate increase, reduce fluid retention (bloating this is huge) and it allows you to reap the hair benefits with improved tolerance
and unlike immediate release minoxidil that clears the blood system within hours, extended release keeps the drug available at the hair follicle for much longer
and this prolonged contact helps maximize sulphotransferase mediated conversation of of minoxidil into its active form (active hair growth metabolite)
and clinical trials show great evidence on how effective extended release minoxidil can be.
however as all of this sounds it is still not approved and currently investigational, however it was announced that in early 2026 they had successful phase 2 and phase 3 trials and its projected approval date seems to be anywhere from late 2027 to early 2028
this can genuinely be a game changer for those who cant tolerate oral minoxidil
worked for about an hour on this, rep would be appreciated
stay mog
