Less than 10% of those that enter such events do them at anything resembling a race pace. Most basically walk 95% of the race and do a moderate jog at the beginning and end. They think of themselves as athletes when they are not. Even most people that enter marathons don't actually run them, they kind of shuffle their feet for 6 hours. I just don't understand the mindset of being a slow runner, and instead of training to run faster, you train to run a longer distance at the same slow pace.
