I'm not religious at all but I have this irrational fear that when I die, God will send me to hell to be eternally punished for all the evil stuff I did in this world. I can't shake this thought out of my head.

You can't have salvation without repentence. Most "christians" don't repent. They cover their sins, and therefore will never prosper. Most "christians" will end up in hell.

God forgives us only because of what Christ did on the cross. But we must repent before we can have our sins washed away with his blood. Who was the last prophet to come directly before Christ? John the Baptist. What was his message? "Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

John the Baptist didn't come directly before Jesus for pure coincidence.
