A few months post op from trimax now and can see start seeing results without all the swelling. Had a narrow palate at the start so got 9mm expansion, jaw movements were 7.3mm upper, 5mm lower (10mm in total from rotation), 7mm genioplasty.

No longer a recessed midface hapa.

Was mse worth it? How is your breathing before and after and did mse descend you at all? 9mm is quite a big widening

Good ascension bro
  1. What is your front looking like?
  2. Who did the surgery?
  3. What type of expansion (MARPE, SARPE, MSE) and why?
  4. Were there any benefits / disadvantages to this type of expansion?
  5. Were there any disadvantages with your bimax?
  6. How is your swelling?
  7. Did the width of your nose increase?
  8. Did your face get longer?

It was worth it as its really improved my smile and made more space in my mouth, I've posted a pic below of the before/after showing my palate.

1. Slightly shorter due to the rotation, with most of the swelling gone down I'm starting to notice the skin being tighter, currently leaning down so will see how much it made a difference.
2. A local surgeon, might dox myself posting since there so few where I am from.
3. SARPE, my palate is fused and I also needed to get wisdom teeth out too.
4. Wider palate, made more room for the orthodontist to move my teeth. The main risk is asymmetrical expansion but I haven't seen any cases of it.
5. No issues at all, was insanely numb up for the first 2 months but now its good.
6. Insane amount of swelling, could barely breath for the first few days.
7. Yeah the 7m upper jaw advancement made my nose slightly wider, my surgeon put in a stitch to minimise it but its still wider than I'd like. Thinking of getting an alar base reduction and nose tip rhino but have to wait at least 12 months after bimax.
8. Shorter, they rotated my lower jaw up to close the open bite. I had a long face so making it shorter has balanced out my facial thirds.

Very happy for you bro. Lifefuel answers tbh
I'm in a similar boat as you with a longer face
I'd appreciate it if you could tell me the surgeon in Private Messages. Also I could rate your front there too
I'm one of the best raters on this site + most trusted, so feel free 🤙

any implants for the recessed maxilla? How high was your le fort 1 cut? Mine was a standard high cut advancing paranasal and below

No implants. I think mine was a standard lefort 1 cut.

mirin, im getting trimax late 2026, and I just had my marpe placed, but I feel like maybe should've opted for multi segment lefort 1 instead of marpe since Im only expanding 5mm, would you say marpe was worth it tho for you

Good luck bro, life is just better in general afterwards.

I've heard the recovery of segmental lefort 1s are really rough because of needing to wear the splint for longer. The expansion from a MSE appliance is generally more stable and allows the larger movements which I needed, overall I'm pretty happy with going with the expander as it took me from a 6 tooth to 8 tooth smile, maybe even 10 after the bracers come off.

I think you can still expand after a lefort 1, not 100% on that tho, consult with newaz tho and fme is expensive

glad i'm not the only one who noticed that christopher is recessed af and would benefit from bimax.

blackpilled how they mock his big nose when it's really his recessed lower maxilla that makes his nose seem so big

his chin isn't even recessed its his extremely retrusive mandible, I chose the name because I am a less extreme version off him thankfully. but I mean shit he's a sfs cel he could really benefit especially since his orbitals aren't too bad, his Supras are really good

i had a similar case to moltisanti before my bimax as well. bimax will really ascend you if you have a similar case to moltisanti because i ascended quite hard from it ngl.

My base is definitely better than his, my face is more forward grown it’s just that I we both have biretrusion and a retruded mandible and a short lower third

was this done via insurance?

Yes, I had a malocclusion (class I open bite) so it was covered by insurance
did u get to pick surgeon or was i just a random local one?

I was able to pick the surgeon within my state, had a few consultations and chose the one that lined up with what I was looking to achieve. This was mainly the kind of movements that they were suggestion and issues that i wanted to fix so recession, midface flatness, bite, sleep apnea etc.

why do u have to wait 12 months is that for everyone who has bimax or rhino or just your case

The maxilla is connected to the nose and when you get surgery they need to open up the base of the nose to perform the movements.

There’s a lot of changes up to 12 months with swelling, soft tissue movement etc. These all need to settle before making more movements otherwise it could lead to a bad outcome from the rhino. Even a month after this post, my face looks even better than the one I posted. A fair bit of swelling in various places if you put them side by side.

Do you have front face fotos before after?

good result for the profile but i find this to be the easiest to fix. improving front face is the tough one

Did your insurance need to see a failed sleep apnea test or did they just roll with the malocclusion?

Malocclusion was enough, you can see in my below before photo that my teeth don't touch at all.

I don't have any good front photos that would make for a fair comparison under similar lighting etc, I also looked so shit in my before photos because I didn't start softmaxxing so throws everything off. I'll need to ask my ortho to send me the pics he took but probably won't get them till next year.

This was a day before my maxillary expansion surgery (2 years ago).

The other day just before I got my bracers off.

My smile has improved the most, and my chin is no longer that shape. Not as significant as the side profile, 3/4 etc.
