For those of you with at least one non-Anglo parent, do you know a language other than English?

And what language is it?

Mum is WASP, dad is Lebanese. I can only read and write Arabic, but I cannot communicate in it very well as I wasn't taught the language since birth.

Ah yes, for the thread itself. I'll post the "timeline" data later, but now:

People on here are saying I'm not a true Muslim because I cannot communicate in Arabic very well, but little do they know I can't recite some of the surahs and I do keep halal.

I'm doing a little better now. I actually was crying and venting to my parents about my identity while growing up and why didn't my mother step in like my father in becoming more Muslim (she is far more laid-back compared to my dad, but she's culturally Muslim. This was typical behaviour of the white convert parents at my school who married Muslim spouses)

I also asked my dad to try and teach me how to speak Arabic, as I can only read it (and speak Quranic Arabic), and to get my back into reading the 5 daily prayers as I stopped during uni.

I also had to vent out about that one toxic relationship I had with the HQNP Muslim half-Indian LARPer, and dad told me if I start praying 5 times back (and only date halal) I'd be forgiven. Still he said that me having a laycount of 1 in a relationship that was toxic and didn't work out (with the woman lying about her upbringing and background) wasn't as bad as sleeping with 5+ women out of a relationship and could be overlooked if I owned up to the woman I will be seeing after he sets me up.

شو اسمك
It will be kept confidential, but only my middle name has been made known (Edouard) which was added in as a suggestion by my white mother.

It is hard to keep halal? Does it create a barrier around social events?
Not really, but if I tell people they respect my decisions a lot actually.
