I believe in genetic determinism. Your iq and your looks will have a huge impact on your mannerisms and life outcome.

Anyone who says they are certain free will does not exist has not read any primary literature on the topic or has only read Sam Harris.

If it exists, there are degrees of free will, Chad with high IQ, good family and education has more free will than the inner city black kid who lived in substandard housing and ate lead paint, and that black kid is going to have more free will than the 8 year old African who got drafted into a child army in the Congo.

Yea that's who I learned the "there's no free will" argument from for the first time. I just said idk in the poll because I feel like the core of what free will is is debatable.

A topic that spans 2000 years and has received so much contemporary discussion in both philosophy and neuroscience and that hack thinks he can prove it doesn't exist in a 96 page book.

It's so sad that that idiot is so many people's first introduction to the topic.

Free will exists.
Life is just biology and chemistry. You are what you are.

There's an article that says we take action a couple miliseconds before even thinking about it.

Maybe it's all chemical, and the action happens before and the thinking come later as a justificative, but again, something would have to happen before the chemical reaction to cause the action

Also since I just came back to this thread,

Compatibilism is cope and there is a reason there has been a push towards incompatibilist discussions in the last couple of decades.

I think although Free Will does not exist, it's up to you to make the choices.

Meaning even if Free Will does not exist that is not how it is presented to you. As an individual you feel there are options to change/improve your life, and there are. You are to make your own decisions.

On a large scale although this is scientifically and philosophically valid, in the real world you will have choices to make. There is a different substance grounded in reality barred from the abstractness of Free Will vs. Determinism.

Free will doesn't mean you can become anything you want or do whatever you want, it means you at least have more than one possibility. Which you even state at the end of your post.
