Have been researching about furosemide lately and this is what i have to share
WHAT IS FUROSEMIDE?
(and how it works)
Furosemide (Lasix) is a loop diuretic. It makes the kidneys remove more salt and water from the body, increasing urine production.
Furosemide inhibits the sodium-potassium-chloride (Na⁺/K⁺/2Cl⁻) transporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle. By preventing sodium and chloride reabsorption, it decreases the kidney’s ability to retain water, resulting in increased urine output.
WHEN TO USE
- Pre date
- night out clubbing (pair with a beta blocker)
- this parts water cos it’s pretty much every “occasion” for which u go out- but don’t over use.
Dosage
40-80mg + high water intake first 2 hours then restrict. Eat potassium rich foods/ take potassium rich supplements. (DONT USE EVERY DAY)
SIDES
-rebound fluid retention CAN happen after stopping furosemide
-Electrolyte crash so low potassium = heart rate go up, which can be bad
-Dehydration (drink water)
-Kidney strain ( IF YOU USE EVERYDAY)
-Not for daily use - this is a TOOL, not a HABIT
