As the title says do you like ray tracing in games? If yes please explain why if not please explain why not. I’m not a big gamer myself, more of a tech nerd who likes technology and innovation. From my perspective, ray tracing is pretty revolutionary It finally gets rid of all the old hacks like fake reflections and baked lighting, and moves games closer to how light actually works in the real world. It makes things feel more consistent and natural, not just shinier imo

But I’m curious about the gaming side of it Is the performance drop still too much even after we are the 5th generation of RTX cards? Do most people prefer just use RT shadows or reflections instead of full ray tracing? And is the visual upgrade something you actually notice while playing or mostly in screenshots and photo mode?

I still rock a RX 5500 XT 4gb so i don't have a chance to get a impression of ray tracing first hand
but from what i've seen i don't really percivie ray tracing as anything revolutionary and more something more like a natural course of events because even without ray tracing we would have gotten rid off these " old hacks " in a matter of a few years
Also in newer games having ray tracing on doesn't make a huge diffrence graphiics wise
in a matter of a 2-4 generations of graphics cards ray tracing will become a new baseline

No because it pushes the burden of lighting and post processing onto the consumer

before devs would create screen space reflections and other clever tricks to get the same exact effect, and it would be way less taxing on performance

now a game that would run on 16mb of ran, requires 32 Gigs and barely looks any better

fuck ray tracing
