Im having septoplasty and turbinate reduction tomorrow morning. Nervous as fuck right now. Contemplating if i made the right decision since i only have breathing problems in my left nostril (deviation to the left) and ive heard many horror stories about recovery and surgical outcome :feelswhy: shouldn't have browsed r/septoplasty so much beforehand.
From the outside my nose is almost perfectly straight only the nostrils are slightly uneven especially when breathing in. Septoplasty is a functional surgery so the aesthetic benefit will be non-existent or minimal at best.

Anyway i let you guys know how it went tomorrow :ogre:

I got it last year breathing feels so much nicer. First day is pretty much hell tho in terms of nose pain.

My hospital were so careful with pain meds. If I were to do it again I’d sneak in my own ibprofen.

Oh nice just the first day or multiple days of feeling pain / discomfort?
How was your breathing before surgery? Both side impaired or just one?

The pain in the first 6-8 hours is worst than all the rest of the pain combined.

Then for 2-3 there will slight pain that’s easily managed with ibuprofen.

For a week after you’ll have these tubes in your nose to keep the nasal passage in place, they’re a bit uncomfortable but the worst part of when they get taken out. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE 400mg of ibuprofen before this or you’ll regret it. It will be painful anyway but this will help.

Then for 30 days your nose will hurt if you touch it but other than that not painful.

I could breathe out my left but not right. 1.5 years later I can breathe out of both. Feels nice but I’m not sure it actually changed much. Less colds maybe. Allergies a bit less.

I probably wouldn’t go through it again but glad I have it now.

Yeah feels like hell right now. No pain but insane discomfort.
No breathing through nose obviously, mucus running down my throat constantly and definitely no sleep probably getting an heavy headache very soon

yeah first two days were hell haha:feelswhy: but i can already breath through my nose almost just fine by now. Doc says im not allowed to go to the gym for another 3 weeks or so which sucks but other than that i feel just fine. Had a pretty speedy recovery after tamponades / packing was removed

turbinate reduction tomorrow morning
Did you have compensatory turbinate hyper trophy along with deviated nasal septum?

Also what method did the surgeon use, was it
Submucosal diathermy, Partial turbinectomy or Radiofrequency ablation?

Yes i had also turbinate reduction done. They did both Lateralization of the nasal turbinates and Submucosal diathermy to reduce tissue volume

listen up basic bitch. septoplasty is no joke, so you better be prepared for a rough ride home. if your nose looks fine from the outside but one nostril doesn't breathe, it's probably because that crooked cartilage inside your nose is all fucked up. you didn't need to browse those forums - a doctor knows what they're doing. just shut up and go through with the surgery already before you get cold feet.
