We can only act morally by following rules.

Why?

Because the nature morality is so infinitely complex, with so many different perspectives and participants, that it’s impossible for a human, so limited in intellect and knowledge and ability, to make such a judgment

So we can only act morally by following simple rules

And the rules that are at the root of humanity are the Ten Commandments

Whenever we stray away and try to make our own rules, even if they appear to work, we still create Many invisible injustices

Because we are too imperfect and flawed to be the judge

Only someone perfect, who knows everything there is to know, who accounts for every variable that could ever enter the equation, could make the right rules

Most reasonable men have a gut feeling as to what is immoral or moral regardless of faith

There is definitely still value to faith tho

That gut feeling is only shaped by social norms

Look at the taboos other cultures hold, and on the other hand look at how carelessly and casually some tribes will slaughter their own

If there truly is a divine instinct to act morally, it’s corrupted and desensitized very early by society, and instead becomes shapes by the wrong source (humans)

Depending on what you mean I agree, I’m repelled by how dogmatic and self righteous many people are but at the same time I understand why

People saying they can have morality without religon confidently always forget they have been raised in a culture that has 500-1000 years of christian morality conditioning people as a background, most instincts and feelings for decent morality imo is just from being brought up in this culture, if you were raised in a different period or culture like pagan europe or ancient greece your conception of morality would be extremely different, too clarify im not christian myself I just believe to deny this is silly, it is quite difficult to arrive to the same conclusions of morality as the average christian logically if you are not christian

Nothing is perfect.
Nothing we have ever observed yet is perfect

God is perfect

God cannot be observed or comprehended by the human mind

These things are all compatible

I meant the nature of morality eg the mechanics behind how it works

I agree with your second point, the rules we have allowed humans to come up with have been disastrous

I mean the right rules for minimizing evil and maximizing good

Dnr but you’re saying that you follow your moral just because someone else told you, you have to?

Create your own moral

Create your own moral
it’s not my “morals”

I follow somebody else’s morals because they are perfect and have created the perfect morals

If I were to try and create my own morals, with me being imperfect and flawed, these morals wouldn’t be morals at all, they would be flawed

There is no universal moral that’s perfect.

You underestimate yourself

If there is no form of morality that’s perfect, why do you follow any of them?

I follow the moral that I created, because I think that’s the right moral and I know it’s neither perfect nor universal but we shouldn’t follow the traditional, Christian morals without questioning them.

I’m not saying that every Christian „morality trait“ is wrong, I myself believe most of the Christian „morality traits“ are good, but my point is that you shouldn’t follow these morals because God created them and because they are so perfect.
You should think on your own and have thoughts by yourself.

How god can be necessary to morality when it doesn't exist :feelshah:

Nothing we have ever observed yet is perfect

God cannot be observed or comprehended by the human mind

I understand why the wealthy families like King James wouldn't allow the book called the Infancy Gospel of Thomas into the Bible. Ugh, would rather not encourage the little people from taking down the bullies, and the rich wouldn't want their children to be weak because of that fear.

fuck god idc i dont do anything bad and i hate the god, i made my own rules

The mere implication that there is a universal objective moral standard for a start, and that the one proposed in the Bible is somehow superior to all others despite the fact that YHWH himself is a genocidal maniac who tortures and torments without care and allows the worst kinds of evil to persist. The whole free will argument goes out of the window when he could have just made a reality without such things if he were truly omnipotent. And christian “morality” has doomed the west with its weakness
