I haven't seen a good thread on how to do it properly so here. Also this is my first proper thread, pls give feedback.

This is a cosmetic technique. It does not remodel your bones, enlarge your jaw, move your cheekbones, or permanently change your facial skeleton. It just reduces puffiness and can pronounce your features.

Gua sha is a traditional massage technique involving a smooth tool being moved across the skin. A 2025 randomized trial found measurable changes in facial-contour measurements after an 8-week gua sha protocol, although it was a small study and does not prove permanent structural changes.

THE ROUTINE

./ preparation

> Clean your face

> Clean your gua sha (hyaluronic acid)

> Apply moisturiser/oil for adequate glide

If the tool is dragging you need more moisturiser. It should glide across ur skin for the best effect and also to reduce bruising

./ step 1 - collarbone / neck

> Use extremely light strokes (5–10 passes) around the neck and toward the collarbone to open your lymphatic system.

> go from the top of your neck down towards your collarbones

./ step 2 - jawline

> Position the tool beneath the chin

> go from under your chin, along the jawline and up to your ear with 5-10 passes per side

./ step 3 - cheeks

> Start around the centre of your face

> go from the centre towards the out sides of your face and up to your ears/ temples again with 5–10 passes per side

./ step 4 - under eyes

Use extremely light pressure.

> go from ur inner under eye to the outer corner and down to your temples (5-10)

./ step 5 - forehead

> from the centre of your forehead to ur temples (5-10)

./ step 6 - drainage

> re-do several gentle downward strokes toward the collarbone to drain the fluid

good practices

> keep the gua sha relatively flat against your skin at all times
> keep the pressure light & moderate
> tilt your head back when doing the final step

> temp de-puffiness of the face
> potentially slightly sharper-looking facial contours
> temp increase in local circulation
> relaxation of muscles in ur face

> too much pressure, bruising will make u look shit
> too many passes
> not allowing the gua sha to glide smoothly with poor moisturisation
> having irritation on ur face such as: broken skin, severe irritation, significant flaking or any inflamed acne

you have a lymphatic system for this exact purpose, just live and move around normally and you'll get the same results

except that detoxing isn’t cope because it’s something that actually works. gus sha doesn’t do anything.

electrolyte balance and draining fluids are the ways that you get rid of water retention. not gua sha.
