I’ve been told by my psychiatrist that I’ve been exhibiting patterns of a depressive episode with especially recurring suicidal thoughts and reduced interest in activities.

With no help from my psychiatrist I’ve discovered why I have been depressed but there is no final solution for it.

My question is how do you manage dealing with depression and still go to the gym without being mentally burnout?

Any advice on how to get pass this mental exhaustion?

What anti depressants do you take ?

Are you still in school ?

I take a standard dose of Sertraline (50 mg) and yes I’m still in school, I take days off of school to cool down.
How is your social life ? What moments or parts of the day make you most depressed ?

My social life is fine, what moments or parts of the day that makes me the most depressed is usually at night and during the day is when i feel sorrow and worthlessness feeling like I have no significance in life serving no purpose

During the day during school in class ?

Also if you struggle during the night time o would recommend going to sleep much earlier and waking up earlier. If you struggle with it during the night you can kind of remove the window of depression by going to sleep much earlier. Now if you start waking up early would that be a problem ? Could you develop a new to me window where you would be vulnerable to depressive thoughts ?

Yeah during the day in class time also. I’ll definitely start going to sleep earlier when I start getting negative thoughts I wouldn’t mind waking up earlier, it’ll give me time to think.

For class I could recommend listening to music or jsut pay attention more to the lectures. For night time use melatonin and magnesium to fall asleep sooner and relax better

I’ll try magnesium, I was prescribed 10 mg melatonin and it didn’t work 😭 but yeah for the day I’ll try to focus on the lectures more.

I guess your evening habits must be not good
Nah not really, I was in the mental institution when my psychiatrist questioned if I had psychosis and our bedtimes were at 22:30 and the medication was given during the day when I had a breakdown. My bed time still remains the same

You could try resetting your circadian rhythm or other medication.

I wouldn’t expect tapering off medication to be something to do in this case. As for resetting circadian rhythm I don’t know how to do that

Don’t sleep a whole night. But you have school so do it on a weekend when you aren’t busy. Then follow a strict sleep schedule.
Whats your advice on going to the gym whilst painfully experiencing a mental burnout? Do I just do short sessions and gradually make it into an hour?

What do you reckon?

Honeslty for me I only really can enjoy doing cardio. Maybe if you are going through a panick attack you can jsut not go to the gym at all or go but only do cardio. Have you ever gotten therapeutical assistance ?

Nah I haven’t but I got to lose weight so I’ll probably start doing cardio first than heavy lifting.

What do you mean by therapeutical assistance?

Try to use / make gym the OUTLET for you.

Years back, I had a breakup, and literally shed tears whilst I was doing cable flys

I couldn't keep the emotions away, yeah ok a bit gay for crying in the middle of the gym, but it was just a few and I channeled it into the gym

Anti depressants are cope just realise you've reached the depressed part of your life and let it consume you, personally I've reached the stage of depression where Ive been depressed for so long that its feels better staying depressed than getting better, think its called mdd, but i prefer it, i think its rather low T to take medicin

How does it feel ? Do you think it helps ?
It doesn’t sedate you, in my situation is more used as a mood stabiliser rather than resolving the perceptual anomalies that I experience everyday.

I wouldn’t say it helps because i’m on a sub therapeutic dosage (2.5) and it hasn’t done anything for me.

Why not hop off or get another med ?

im diagnosed with depression, anxiety, adhd, tmj, osteoarthiritis, you learn to live with the pain and it doesnt make anything "better" or "good" simply dulls/flatlines the feeling a bit, now the going to the gym part is all about how much you want it. There is no mental burnout if you truly want it, if your obsessed with the results.
