I’ve been struggling with my chest since I was around 13–14, and it has affected me mentally way more than I usually admit.

When I was 12–15 I was very overweight. At 15 I was around 172 cm and 98 kg.

At 15 I suddenly started losing weight without really trying. I lost around 20 kg within like 2 months and eventually ended up around 180 cm / 72 kg.

Even after losing all that weight, my chest still looked completely out of proportion to the rest of my body.

A doctor told me it was “pseudogynecomastia” and said it might disappear as I got older or if I became leaner.

That gave me a lot of hope, because I thought it would eventually fix itself.

So at 16 I started training seriously.

Eventually I cut down to around 12% body fat just to see if getting very lean would fix it.

At my leanest, I took front and side comparison pictures where I stimulated one side so it tightened up while leaving the other side warm and relaxed. The difference was pretty noticeable.

The side view is what completely destroys my confidence.

I also pretty much never wear white or thin shirts because my nipples/chest poke through them. I mostly wear black shirts made from thicker fabric, and even then I always wear a tight tank top underneath to compress and hide my chest even when it’s extremely hot outside.

After reverse dieting and gaining some weight back, my chest became more noticeable again.

I haven’t gone swimming with my friends for the last three summers because of it.

I’m 17 now and I have another appointment with the doctor in a few months. He previously told me to come back if it was still there when I was around 18.

At this point I just want to know what my actual options are.

If anyone has dealt with something similar — especially gynecomastia/pseudogynecomastia — I’d really appreciate advice on what I should ask the doctor and what options I should look into.

I also have a lot more stories and experiences related to this that I didn’t include because I didn’t want to make the post too long.

btw I had to use ai for this because my grammar sucks

It’s not bad anymore… barely noticeable but if it’s still something you constantly think about you should save for surgery

Treatments seem to be meds like raloxifene (serms) which target the estrogen receptors in the breast tissue without causing low e2 side effects like an AI might. This will just reduce swelling/progression. Only real treatment is surgery. If u complain it hurts to ur doctor insurance might cover it but its unlikely. Surgery is ~5-10k in the us but cheaper in mexico or poland.

Ty, I appreciate it. But it still pokes through almost every white or thin shirt, and there are still a lot of angles where it’s very noticeable. Even if it looks minor to other people, whenever someone notices it, it completely kills my confidence and brings back all the insecurity I’ve had about it for years.

I live in Austria its pretty expensive here, im trying to get it covered but im not sure if they will cuz it would be considerd a cosmetic surgery but I already saved about 2-3k and might just do it in another country

I got gyno at like 14 and got really scared but it was only very tiny, just a little hard lump behind the nipples. I even went to the doctor which I never do. They said it might be a thyroid thing iirc. Anyway they didn’t do anything about it. It is a lie it will just disappear. At some point (like a year I think) the tissue becomes hard and it stays forever. Btw looking back I think I just had low T which I suspect I’ve always had.

In my case if is not noticeable because it is so tiny. Still I was insecure about it but I realized it is actually invisible except maybe if you look really closely you see the nipples are a tiny bit more protruded but it still doesn’t look weird. So ever since I haven’t worried about it.

But in your case if you want to resolve it the only option is surgery. Now I don’t know how your family is but what I would do is tell your parents how much you are affected mentally and ask if they will pay for it. A few grand is not too much I think but of course it could be they are poor. In that case you will have to find a job and work for a few months.

They really don’t like the idea of cosmetic surgery just for looks, but they’ve seen how much I’ve been struggling with it. For a while they even thought I was sick because of how I was behaving, but now they understand what was actually affecting me. Still, they probally wouldn’t pay for the surgery, so I’d have to save up the money myself

This is such a ridiculous response from them. This is a mental health issue + a physical deformity of their own child and they go and tell you some retarded story about how *they* don’t like “the idea” of cosmetic surgery. So you have to deal with this shit meanwhile they make it about themselves and what they think of it like that’s even relevant. Unless they are genuinely poor they have no excuse it’s just beyond retarded.

They even thought you were sick so they even know it’s a real issue and still they are too greedy to pay a few grand for their own child. Ok so they don’t like “the idea” but surely they like their own ideas of spending money on all kinds of useless crap for themselves including probably your mom on make up because she gets tricked by marketing for shit that doesn’t even work. And your dad deserves to get bald if he is like this. Imagine seeing your own son grow boobs and you’re like I don’t like “the idea” of doing anything about it even though he is struggling with having boobs. Sorry but they are living in Austria 2-3k is nothing this is not the slums of Mumbai they have no excuse.

If they really keep being this selfish I would still get a job (I would do this regardless anyway because it’s good not to be lazy and have some cash) and pay for it yourself. Maybe you can make them feel very bad about themselves when they see how you worked and paid to feel like a normal guy again because they rather spend money of shit for themselves and not their own child.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. I’ll try talking to them again, and if that doesn’t work I’ll probably just get a job and save up for it myself.
