Both are done for different purposes.

Hanging for length and pumping for girth.

You can combine both exercises.

With hanging you will exclusively only gain length, with pumping you can gain both but typically it prioritizes girth more (some people also gain more length from it but that depends on you genetics / shape and malleability of your tunica albuginea). Its best to do hanging first and then pumping after because the pumping irritiertates the skin which can increase the risk of blisters forming. Also there is theory that pumping after hanging aids the strain caused by hanging which might help getting gains faster even you are only focused on length you should also do a bit of pumping
