what incentive is there to vote in an election except for mindless entertainment akin to betting on a horse to win?
the expected value is negative. the effort expended voting vastly exceeds the probability of your vote swaying the result and then leading to a beneficial outcome for yourself.
even if we look past the outdated homo economicus and turn to models with other-regarding preferences and utility for your "civic duty" there still remain the problems of bounded rationality and imperfect information. how can a person know that their vote won't actually lead to negative outcomes for themselves and others? it's a risk that most don't even consider because they incorrectly consider their political views to be infallible.
so you're expending effort to do something that in 9,999,999/10,000,000 does nothing and with a 1 in 10 million chance can either be good or bad. lmfao at voters
