I’m already a skinny fat fuck so my face is pretty bloated and ugly but I’m talking about purely skeletal problems

I’m pretty sure I have a narrow maxilla/narrow palate because if I try to mew with proper tongue posture, my tongue clashes with my teeth around the roof of my mouth so I can’t do it comfortably. But in the picture I took from below, my palate looks only slightly narrow (I have elastics + braces on in this picture btw). I also have an 8 tooth smile (yes i have buccal corridors) and have been mouth breathing pretty much my whole life because my parents never bothered to correct it

I know my lip/nose ratio is raped. It might not be obvious in the picture but irl my lips look really small in proportion to my chin area/jaw. This is where the idea of a palate expander comes in. If I do actually have a narrow palate, I think it would help give the appearance of wider lips since there would be more support from the maxilla, and narrow maxilla = narrow palate—ofc correct me if I’m wrong though i’m fucking clueless when it comes to this kind of thing

For context I am 16, attached some pictures below. I have braces on already with elastics to fix an overbite. Would getting a palate expander help? Cant tell if my palate is narrow or not. If this isnt it lmk. Also if you see any other flaws facially, would appreciate if you told

grab ur index and middle finger and put them behind ur front teeth
if u can fit less than 2 = narrow

2 = average

above 2 = wide

also dont expect the palate expander to change ur face alot, most of the time its very subtle, also im 99 percent sure ur palate isnt narrow

Be careful with elastics, from what I have read them can cause downward growth and recess the mandable or maxilla depending on what class elastics you have.

They offered class III for me but I declined and said I will only expand.

Please just never listen too an orthodontist in the United States.

do yk what classes specifically do that ?

i think im getting elastics soon and forget about this, i only had overcrowding tho not underbite/overbite/overjet so i think im good

I’ve heard that in some cases it can cause downward growth/recession yeah but in my case it could also bring the jaw forward and improve projection (since my current recession to be caused by an overbite) so I’m just taking the risk anyways. Worst case scenario I’ll just get surgery and live as a subhuman for a few more years lmao

Imagine you have a room with furniture in it, but the room is too small.

Instead of making the room itself bigger, orthodontist will rearrange the furniture (teeth) to try and make room for the bite, even if that pulling back the teeth, where the bones will follow (if you are still growing)

Like my case, Class III- will move the lower teeth back and upper teeth forward instead of fixing the root issue (being recessed)

Do your own research on the elastics.

But please, do not listen to the orthodontist unless they are airway based only, even then do you’re own research ALWAYS.

I had an orthodontist tell me the elastics would do exactly what I’m asking for and move the entire jaw forward and “might” fix my sleep apnea and airway issues, they will take advantage if you aren’t informed.

i think ill be fine tho cuz its for a crossbite,

its not like pulling teeth back or forward to correct for example mandible recession

do u have any threads on elastics by chance, so i know what to ask my ortho

Elastics are different for each case and can be good or bad imo if you have a cross bite fix it because even if you get some recession it will be worth because of improved symmetry and smile but do your own research
