i'm on accutane and will be done with it late july or early august. i want to tan so i can get rid of my cumskin before school starts back up in late august or early september. can i sun tan with sunscreen for about a week in mid august about half a month after accutane or will that fuck me up? will it just be like a normal sun tan?

It will fuck you up.
1/2 month is not enough.

How long would I have to wait and are there any alternatives?

I’d wait at least 6 months after Accutane just to make sure your skin photosensitivity is back to normal. Don’t make the same mistake as I did, because it ruined my skin and collagen. Stay away from the sunlight as much as possible.

Atleast 4 months.

Nope.
But you can buy a good spray tan.
Which you can always apply even now
any specific recommendations for tan lotion/spray tan that looks natural and not super orangey on a very white dude?

If there's sun, yes. But as @Simone Nobili said, you can always use a spray tan. I still think natural tan is better though.

Thanks for advice & info; I didn't know about that. According to what I've found from dermatologists, they say the growth plate closure only has the potential to happen in patients treated over long periods of time with high dosages for things other than just acne.

Even if it did, closing growth plates its just associated with height, correct?

correct, but idk why you would be fine with that unless you are already tall

I'm about 5'11.25''. It'd be nice to be taller, but my doctor says I'll probably only get another half inch anyway, iso or not. Regardless, it seems there is only one recorded case out of thousands of accutane treatment for acne causing the closing of growth plates. I think that risk is worth it.

what is your current dosage?

what is your current dosage?
40 daily. derm doesn't know if he will ever up the dose because i've been responding pretty well to it so far. not going to be more than like 6 months overall.

How long ago was this and what long-term effects did you notice? Not that I'm even considering doing this, just curious.

It was about a week ago, jfl. I over exaggerated, but my skin defilently burned alot faster than before accutane, and I tanned near instantly. I'm on ~30mg a day, 4th month.

Also curious, have you experienced any hair loss? I'm beginning to get mild hair thinning/loss since month 3

Just baby hairs at the corners of my hairline thinning out. Nothing noticable.

You should be fine to tan on accutane, especially with the dose you are on. Just wear mild sunscreen.

That's a very unpopular opinion on this forum tbh. 80mg gives unnecessary side effects while 30mg gets the job done the same amount of time with less effects. I was on 60mg for some time but I started getting hairloss so I went down to 30mg.

There are some people on this forum who use 10mg a day, fyi

Those people who take 10 mg are doing it indefinitely lmao and they can potentially fuck their liver in the long run.
im doing it for 6 months and then will stop. The higher and longer ur course is the better chance u will never get acne again it changes ur skin dna

I’m on month 4 i was losing hair because my scalp was super dry like it was literally chunks of Skin falling off but I shaved all my hair off and it’s quarantine so it doesn’t matter, I might go on low dose accutane indefinitely if my acne ever comes back. When I was on 20 mg my skin was glowing but 80 mg makes ur skin like A desert

So you agree that high dosage causes hairloss? I'm glad you had the courage to shave your head but I actually look terrible with hairloss so I went down to 30mg. Anyways, you are at higher risk of permanent hair loss at that dose

I’m 5 months in with two to go. First 4 I took 40, been in 60 for the last month. I’ve been wondering the same thing tbh. I burn pretty easy normally but haven’t been much worse than usual so far this summer. So anecdotally maybe you’ll be fine With mt2 and maybe sunscreen like gunner said. Just take it slow and don’t get burnt. I sure hope I’m right or I might tank my collagen.

Hairloss stuff is bullshit, im a Medical student myself and I’ve studied vitamins. the Hair loss caused by accutane is NOT permanent and always grows back and the hair loss is caused by the extreme dryness not by accutane.

I was on that same schedule, except I was on 60mg starting the second month. Have you got any hairloss?

I hope your right. I still do find it bizarre why you would openly stay on 80mg with hairloss, that would really freak me out

Bro, I didn’t have diffuse hair loss lmao, the chunks of skin use to pull the hair with it that’s why i had hair loss, and it wasnt even that bad I still had a full head of hair

Well you wouldn't even know if you are suffering from diffuse thinning due to how you apparently shaved your head

Gradually balding but less than both my brothers who never took accutane. No way I could isolate a cause

Do you guys know if it’s fine to start dermaneedling while in accutane? Collagen boost, scar reduction, and anti balding so I’d like to start sooner vs later

Don't listen to @EdwardCullen . He is obviously going against all medical advice.

To avoid hairloss I'd recommend a hair oil mask (preferable argon oil) and using argon conditioner. Also make sure to use Neutogena's T-gel. Use all of these as soon as you go on accutane, don't wait for any hair issues

Bro I might do 10-20 mg indefinitely because this 80 mg shit is getting too dry

Are you on a prescription or are you freeballing it? I'm on 30mg and it's still dry but not nearly as bad 80mg would be

I did all liver function tests and they came back normal and I was surprised lmao.

Your liver would be fine at nearly any dose, I don't even know why the derms still check for that tbh. If you have LITERAL skin coming off your scalp than you should consider going down, dedsrs

I’m gonna finish this month with 80 and go down to 40 I only have 2 months left for my course anyway
