My goal in life is not to earn money (My family is well off and I know that money doesn't matter after the basics), I want to build my own wooden house, raise my children, have a sailboat, grow my own plants and animals, and the rest of the time reading. This is the life I want today. It was never a doubt that I would go to college, I was always interested in all intellectual subjects and I always participated in all the debates I could. But exactly because I like knowledge as a whole, I can't decide what to do. I basically spent my 18 and 19 years (Today I'm 20) thinking endlessly about it, I reduced my choice to a few courses and ended up deciding on economics. The idea was that I would gain some mathematical, social, practical, theoretical and broad knowledge that would make it possible to change in a possible future. Now I don't know if I made the right choice, the problem with economics is that I often feel like it's not a science. Theories in the wind, often treated as universal laws, but which do not work in any system. It is basically a study of the capitalist economy. I don't want to work in a bank. I'm in my sophomore year and I think a lot about switching to either philosophy or computer science. The problem is that my parents sent me to study abroad and each month they spend about 6000. I don't want to waste their money. What do I do? I really don't know who else to ask, and it's something that haunts me from the moment I wake up to the moment I fall asleep.

(fyi u mean man econ when u refer to econ right?) u need large assumptions in econ to generalize anything, i dont know what u mean by u dont like econ b/c its not a science. physics make lots of necessary assumptions too.

lots of people switch majors so it's pretty normal. if u already got most of ur GEs (assuming u r in US where half the graduating reqs are GEs) u'll probably be fine. also i dont get it. how r u going to accomplish ur goal w/o money? u need to decide urself the balance between interest (philosophy deg; useless) and practicality (cs deg; soulless) in choosing ur degree.

physics make assumptions that can be saw irl, economics is just trying to deduce the best government move. Some subjects i remember questioning the professor and he went "i know, i know, it doesnt make sense, but it seems like"

Whats ges? im studying in europe. I will need money but not much, my goal is to be self sufficient in food, electricity, water. If i am retired and use a car older than 15 years i dont need to pay any taxes in Brazil and medical assistence is free (Im learning the most of medicine i can as well). I only need money to buy the materials of the house, the boat. Its not much. I think philosophy might be the most useful degree existent, together with mathematics. Those are only ones that teach you stuff that can be applied in every area. I always liked computer and programming, so i dont think i would be souless but yeah its not a healthy way to live (Looking at a screen).
Even if i resolve that i want to be rich, the only way is to have a big company or already having a lot of money to invest. No degree prepare you for that. Economics can help understaning capitalism dynamic but phylosophy teaches how to argument and logic is essential in every area.
I was always good to gain money (Even before 18 i had a company) since i was always ganancious. But i dont know man, in the last years since i started reading more it became so clear to me how this system is failed in every way possible. I dont know if i would be able to work abusing this system while other people suffer in its hand. And in economics you dont learn much orthodox economics like anarquism or communism, and your colleagues dont have any interest in the economic philosophy, they just went into economics for the money,
