i am a hardgainer. i hate eating food and struggled for years to get out of being severely underweight as eating anything makes me feel sick.

considering this, i am still able to eat enough with good effort and if it really becomes an issue i can just smoke weed when needed.

however i believe this does make it so that too much physical exertion affects my ability to put on weight quite heavily. for example if i spend some days doing a lot of activity and being pretty mobile - even if i get hungry and eat in proportion to that, i will still end up losing weight.

MY QUESTION:

is the difference in energy spent doing a mike mentzer style training program - working out less days in the week, shorter very intense sessions - really that substantial compared to a split that might be 5 or 6 days a week with a large selection of exercises and sets in each session.

i have the discipline to stick to any kind of split no matter how many days of the week, my decision will really be decided by whether the stimulous from a split with more volume will really outperform the saved energy of the lower volume split.

i am currently natural and it will stay that way until i make consistent good results in my training.

you should just choose a split where its 2x frequency a week and something u enjoy i would recommend around 1-2 sets per exercise, but just ask if you need any more info:hnghn:

id assume they wouldnt differ too much if the other split has short but very intense form of training:FeelsThinkingMan: (energy part) some people prefer 6x a week some do 2-4x upper lower, it only really matters that you hit all muscles twice a week so choose which one u would stick to the best

yeah i currently do 2 sets per exercise

for a while i was doing like 3 days a week and it did yield results but i just felt lazy and eating was an issue so recently switched to 6 days a week. might stick with it for a while as maybe it will help stimulate an appetite and i can just keep sets low to avoid unnecessary work.
 
Try to find foods you like and eat a lot I would suggest, splits aren’t gonna change your calorie spent (an 1 to 2 hour session would be around 200 calories) but even if a hundred calories is important for you, yeah training with low reps will help and you can do upper lower .You will need go less to the gym with same or similar stimuli

legs are cope and u should only do it if its rlly skinny, girls like it athelitc anyway

this was so easy to do for me and i just stayed consistent

even tho its a bro split (but i repeat muscle group 2x a week)

2 sets of 6-8 reps is law for everything

and get cardio in 4 days a week

might have to get some more equipment too since my home equipment is a barbell, pullup bar and dip bars which makes an arm only day kind of silly with what i have.

also ill have to put legs into this as mine are too small - although i agree that gymbro legs look shit

Yeah a Mike mentzer style would benefit u more but only if you do it right, Also if u want to get big fast start eating everything

If you want the best stimulous the answer would be fbeod, but personally i find U/L better just because it is more fun, i would recommend either a U/L or a Anterior/Posteior / Torso/Limbs

i dont feel i have excessive volume currently, i only do 2 to 3 exercises per muscle group in a session for 2 sets each. and i never do 2 exercises that target the exact same thing, for example flat bench followed by flat dumbell press.

im gonna hop on when i am certain my training is yielding results or in my view thats just a waste of steroids

I agree its not about the split, but saying that arnold is the best is crazy, i actually like ppl, but arnold is pretty mid, there is no reason you should have a arms day

As if pump correlates to hypertrophy lol, lets not forget the biceps and triceps are 2 of the more susceptible to muscle damage, you dont need a specific day to extend and flex your elbow

I do a combination of ppl and ul but im keeping it niche shit made me jacked asf
 
It is, its a ppl but worse, you dont need a day to extend/flex your elbows

I would say it mid, arround a 5/10, better than bro split and others 1x frequency, but worse than ppl, u/l (and the variations), worse than fb etc
 
Ppl is not that bas tbh, good split for begginers (still worse than fb and u/l)
It’s not worse…

Everyone enjoys different splits. as long as you train each muscle 2x per week you’re good. More than that could potentially be better mechanistically

FB and UL is peak but are not better than PPL
