Unless you have been living under a rock, you have probably noticed that AI written fiction is becoming increasingly commonplace, making it harder than ever for human writers to get noticed. Some even predict that AI will make writers obsolete. I disagree with that notion and believe human created works will continue to be relevant, but only within certain genres and for specific aims.

Let’s just rip the bandage off and get this out of the way: generic fiction genres such as fantasy, romance, and erotica will almost certainly be replaced by AI. The usual criticisms of AI writing, that it is generic or uninspired, are largely irrelevant for these genres because many readers do not expect or even want them to be groundbreaking. They simply want their fix. If an AI can create something like a customized isekai portal fantasy, a genre already known for being derivative, tailored exactly to their preferences, they likely will not care that it was written by AI. Fiction intended purely for mass consumption may largely disappear in its current form because AI will generate most of it.

However, what humans can do that AI cannot is exchange ideas and share vision and intention. Sometimes writers want to make a point or write a story with deeper meaning rather than merely providing escapist entertainment. That type of story will remain relevant because their readers are looking for something deeper than just a quick dopamine hit. In that sense, human written fiction will just evolve to become more niche, appealing to a smaller group of readers who value philosophical or conceptual depth.

This wouldn't be so bad, honestly. The 'normies' will just go away and read their AI smut while the rest of us get to have the space all for ourselves.

AI could never write a brothers karamazov

Despite the initial hype, LLMs can't still surpass the best human programmers. I imagine the same happens with creative writing.

What the actual fuck are you talking about? We're already at a point where entire projects are being created using mostly or even almost only AI. All this bs about AI being a failure or that it doesn't boost productivity is coming from coping programmers who don't want to lose their jobs.

Actually, there was an interesting article recently from some developer who said that reason companies aren't benefiting from AI as much as they thought they would is actually because the lazy normshits working at those companies are just using the AI as an excuse to be lazy e.g. instead of working equally as hard but using AI, they just use the AI to maintain the existing productivity so that they can do less work/be lazy. Their laziness is basically eating the AI productivity gain. It's only a minority of elite tech bros who are actually making good use of the technology. This is actually just an even bigger argument in favor of firing the normie humans so they can be replaced with AI.

Cope harder ai is only going to get better

That's irrelevant to the point I was making. It doesn't matter how good the AI becomes in this context. Even with an extremely powerful AI, it's still limited by whatever is being asked of it. It doesn't matter if it could create something extremely deep in theory if it's being operated by a low IQ normie who just uses it for cat memes and derivative LitRPG fan fiction. The normies using it are a bottleneck.
